Smart Skills: Leveraging OvrC Groups and Permission to Ensure Customer Privacy
Video Transcript:
Let’s say your technicians have the Luma app on their phone and they’re out for dinner with friends, they’d potentially have access to all of their customer’s cameras....
To leverage OvrC groups and permissions to ensure customer privacy, follow these steps:
-
Step 1: Add Groups.
-
Step 2: Add Users.
-
Step 3: Set Group Permissions.
-
Step 4: Configure Customer Access and Group Users.
Step 1: Add Groups.
Once logged into OvrC, select the Account Tab. By default, there are three types of groups created. These include one owner, an administrator and one user.
To add a group, select the Groups tab and then the Add Group button. Type a name like Surveillance Setup and a description, such as Systems not yet handed off to the customer. This group would consist of Surveillance experts that can verify the system’s operation before transferring to their customers and not interfere with the clients’ personal lives.
Step 2: Add Users.
Special Note: The green user represents account owners and admins. The gray users are technicians. The purple users are shared users- people or “guests” that have accounts in other OvrC accounts like other dealers and Parasol, for example. You want place users in groups to manage account permissions and manage Customer Access. To do so, select the Users tab. Select the Add User button and enter that user’s email address. Under Assign Groups, from the Select Groups list, find and click on the intended group. You can also configure Customer Access here. When finished, select Submit.
Step 3: Set Group Permissions.
Select the Groups tab once again. Select the edit pencil next to the group to configure. Now we can talk permissions. First, there are Global Permissions. You should know that the second Administrative Actions is turned on, this group automatically is an administrative group and has access to all customers meaning that essentially, there will be no access limitations. Because this group is intended to have access to some customers, but not all, lets going to keep the toggle off here. Next, there are Customer Permissions, including Delete Actions (like devices, locations and customers) and View Snapshots functionality (for IP cameras and MOIP). In this case, let’s turn the View Snapshots toggle on. Customers can now be added to this group. The technicians have the ability to see all the surveillance information for these customers.
Step 4: Configure Customer Access and Group Users.
Select the Customer Access tab. Here, click “select which customers this group can access.” You can search, add all or select which customers this group can access.
Note: Some customers may have multiple locations.
Once the job is complete and handed off to the customer, so now I can remove the users from that group, disabling the ability to see the cameras for those customers. Furthermore, that customer can be moved to a different group now. In the Users tab, de-select the checkboxes of the users no longer needing access. Click save.
Important Note: The View Snapshots toggle allows any user to access any Luma prior to the X20 series. If access to those cameras should be disabled, change View Snapshots toggle off.
When finished, select Save.
And now dinner out with friends is simply that- dinner out with friends. No need to worry about liability and customer privacy is indeed protected. Groups and Permissions for the win!
